Dassia resort - Guide to Dassia holidays in Corfu
Dassia is conveniently located on the east coast of this tantalising island, just 14km from Corfu town.
It faces Albania and the Greek mainland - on a clear day the views across the Ionian sea are dramatically beautiful. Dassia is on a flat, narrow plain right beside the sea, backed by lush, tree-covered hills. It is a busy, active resort that likes to wake early and stay up late. During the day, make the most of the shingle and pebble beach - after a refreshing swim in the calm sea, lie back, relax and let the sun slowly warm your skin and soul. Watersports are popular, including waterskiing, banana boats and boat hire. Why not invest in a speedboat for the day and visit some of Corfu's hidden, deserted coves.

dassia holidays

Dassia is popular with couples and groups of friends who want a little bit of nightlife and a lot of atmosphere. There are many bars, tavernas and a couple of discos, playing anything from traditional Greek folk songs to the latest chart hits. Don't forget to pack your dancing shoes. You won't go hungry in Dassia - there are a good selection of eateries to keep you satiated including an abundance of pizzerias and snack bars.
A regular bus service runs along the coast, and taxis are easily available to take you into the lively neighbouring resorts of Gouvia or Ipsos after dark. There is a long, narrow shingle beach which shelves gently into the warm waters. It is backed by olive and pine trees that rustle relaxingly in the sea breeze. Dassia reputedly offers the best watersports in Corfu, and the flat water is particularly excellent for windsurfing. Choose from the wide range of tavernas, snack bars, pizzerias, beach bars and restaurants in Dassia. They can mostly be found either side of the busy main road, but some of the smaller side streets offer quieter, more traditional atmospheres. Order some olives for a starter - they may even have been picked from the trees in Dassia resort.

How to get in Dassia - Corfu
Dassia is a great central base from which to explore the rest of the island and there is an excellent bus service running every 30 minutes to Corfu Town and regular services to other parts of the island. The resort is on the east coast of Corfu 15 Km from the airport & 16 km from Corfu port. From the town of Corfu, Dassia is about 15 (winding) kilometers to the north, and the road is relatively easy to navigate with signs marking the town at regular intervals. You can get to the island of Corfu by Ferry boat from Igoumenitsa. In the summer ferry boats depart from Igoumenitsa every hour or so (More info about the ferries on the Corfu page), or by airplane. Depending on the taxi driver it can take from 20 minutes to 30 minutes to transfer from the airport. The taxi fair is about 25-30 Euros. You may arrange a transfer or you may catch a taxi from the airport's station on a 24 hour basis. If you wish to take a bus instead then you will have to take a a taxi to the blue bus station which will cost you about 2 Euros per person. The journey takes about 35 minutes.
Nightlife in Dassia
Evening entertainment in Dassia is relaxed, laid back and varied. There are enough bars to keep everyone happy, but Dassia is not a lively nightclub resort as such. There are no clubs, but there are two very lively disco bars that are open well into the early hours. There are also lively bars on the beach. Shakes has nightly entertainment including a great live band and other live entertainment, karaoke and quizzes. The Drunken Duck, just a few doors down from Shakes, offers Greek dancing and plate smashing. Prices are varied in Dassia, but to give you an idea in Shakes a glass of wine is around £1.50 and a pint of imported beer (Johns Smith's, Strongbow etc.) is on average around £2.80. Spirits are double the British measure and start from about £2 including a mixer. Like anywhere else in the world, the bars in some of the hotels can be extremely expensive. Ipsos, where the late night party people head for, is the next resort along and only a short taxi ride away
Dassia Accommodation
There is an abundance of accommodation in Dassia itself with a wide selection of hotels ranging from small and basic to luxury. There are also numerous apartment and studios all within easy walking distance of the resort and a very good camp site that also has excellent chalets. On the whole most self catering apartments are clean and well kept, if sometimes a little basic, but that's the charm of Corfu. As long as you don't expect the Ritz, you won't go far wrong in Dassia. We would suggest reading the reviews widely available on the various holiday sites to avoid the odd one or two that do not provide the level of quality expected.
Dining Out in Dassia - Corfu
Dassia has an abundance of quality restaurants offering a good selection of both traditional Greek cuisine and unique Corfiot dishes. For those on a budget you can get a good three course meal for under £10 and sample quality Greek cuisine for just a few pounds. There are plenty of tavernas to choose from which is one of the main reasons we would not recommend any of the all-inclusives on offer in the resort. There is a good range of both basic tavernas and quality restaurants to keep everyone happy. The Greeks adore children and they are more than welcome in most bars and restaurants.
